Great question. SmoothStar is a brand that had a design focus on simulating surfing. The boards are purely designed for that purpose - from the wide decks, to the length of the boards and then down to the wheels. We even have a board calculator so you know which size to get. But the bottom line, our business wouldn't exist if it didn't help surfers. Also - surf coaches around the world wouldn't integrate SmoothStar into their surf training program if it didn't work. If you want to improve your surfing, SmoothStar is #1 as it feels so much like a surfboard in the water.

Yes. We are sorry. We have so much content but its important that is correctly explained and broken down. That takes time. Even something like this surfing wave, the 2 turn combination turn, you won't find online. We do have some additional things coming but this is just a snap shot. We do have a lot of surf coaches that already implement surf training but we 100% understand that no everyone has the ability and budget to use a personalised surf coach.

We actually have some stories to tell of customers that have improved their surfing. Its pretty remarkable. We do have more content coming like this. If you want more, share this video and others so we can get their feedback in the comments section.

Eventually. However, there should be less maintenance on Thruster D. There will be making some small modification to some parts to make further improvements. We need to collect more data on the Thruster D before realising an official maintenance video.

Hey Rob. Thanks for the comment. The spring rusting is unfortunately avoidable. If we changed this metal it would change the spring performance. However we have springs from boards that are 10+ years - they are still functioning perfectly fine but have small surface rust. You can remove it and respray it, because in compresses the paint will crack and come off anyway. We did make some improvements a while ago regarding the nuts and bolts. However, in our quality control reports, we have less than 2 people report it globally. If you feel it warrants a warranty claim, contact our customer support and we will look at it on a case by case basis. 🤙

When you first take it out, it should be straight. So when you put it back again, you need to split it. That is typically how split pins work.

Good question, its completely understandable. We do provide a complete recondition where we replace all parts except the top and bottom plate. We then put an extra warranty on it if we or an authorised repair centre completes the work. During this process we soak all the components on mineral turpentine. This loosens the dirt and grease so you can wipe it off with a rag or tooth brush. Hope this helps.

Hey Jonathan. Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately even our own models are not back compatible as the wheel bases are changed. We have had to change all of our deck outlines. The difference in the changes will be published soon on our website so you can see the differences. The Dolphin model is a seperate kind of model because its not as reliant on wheelbase and position of truck placement. So there won't be a noticeable difference between your current Thruster and the new Thruster D. So to get the responsive feeling we would recommend getting a shorter model that would match your surf stance.

@@SmoothStarSurf ah, that's really useful, thanks! I'm glad I'm not missing out by keeping the dolphin as it is. I'm pretty comfortable with how it feels underfoot now (I'm 6'4" with size 13 feet) but will have a good look at the shorter boards.

@@Alabalik66 You would really suit the Manta Ray with Thruster D... it might be still a little small for you but it will be super responsive. With the Thruster D models, the tail of the Manta is really wide and will fit a size 13 feet. Have a look at the photo of the Manta on our website and you will see how wide the tail is. We even put the size dimension on the specs. We have another model coming mid next year for surfers that are 6'4" and over but still want a shortboard feeling. There are not many of you out there but we really needed to do it because your surf stances are much wider than others. If you get the Manta with the Thruster D, then change the decks over later next year.

This is just another unethical company that just want to sell completes.

@@thebluewren Its about reengineering an invention that is over 18 years old - 2004. Its our branding and strong ethos to match surf stance. Its not just about our truck inventions, its the over all product. We did consider trade-ins but our older invention is still an amazing product. If we sold our trucks by themselves we would actually sell more. We use to do it a long time ago but we had many customer complaints.

Hey Alec. Thanks. Yes, its been in the works for a long time. Unfortunately we don't sell the Thruster separately. Its not just the Thruster that makes up the board. All boards match surf stance and weight. We discontinued selling our Thruster separately because customers would be frustrated that they couldn't replicate the same surf feeling as our complete boards. We then came across some Hybrid boards ourselves that felt really, really bad to the point that we didn't want them called SmoothStar's. We have seperate raisers, wheelbase, concaves etc etc. There is more information on our FAQ section on our websites.

@@alecsmith3073 Yes they are. However, shipping has been a nightmare. almost 3 weeks delivery from our factory in Taiwan. Boards should arrive on 29th December. However, we will open our website in the next couple of days for pre-orders. Stay tuned.

@@SmoothStarSurf Please sell the wheels as well as the spare parts in Brazil. I got 3 models(1 HT 33", 1 #77 34" and 1 #77 32.5" THD) and I need to replace the wheels on the #77 34" model.

Thanks for the feedback. We use to sell our Thrusters complete but then we had many complaints from customers why their hybrid setup wasn't as good as our completes. Not only did this frustrate these customers, but they took endless time trying to replicate our famous surf feeling no matter what deck, wheels and concaves. There are many factors, not just the Thruster. There is a lot of information on our website about this, just go to our FAQ section. We understand this can annoy some enthusiasts and we lose some customers this way. However, customers that do buy our complete based on their height, surf stance and weight are very satisfied.

Sorry Michal. We don't sell it separately due to previous customers that tried to make hybrid setups. There is many factors, not just the Thruster that make it adapted to the best surf feeling. Such things as: concave, wheelbase, wheels, risers etc. etc. There is lots of information on our website about this, see our FAQ section.

Based on their comments, the real "upgrade" we're seeing here is the adapter being made into the baseplate for their trucks, so we can't buy those separate even if they sold the adapter alone.
